Do you want to sell more items without spending more on ads? Product bundling is one of the best ways to grow your brand. By grouping items together, you give customers more value while helping your store move stock faster. It is a simple trick that makes shopping easier and more fun.
Product bundles are strategically grouped items sold together at a single price, typically with a discount. These packages give customers more value while cleverly increasing your average order value.
In Shopify you can create product bundles via 2 options:
Shopify's native bundling app
3rd party bundling apps
In this article, we’ll guide you through creating product bundles step by step with MBC Bundles app.
Why Should You Create Bundles in Your Store?
Bundling helps your store in many ways. Here are the top benefits:
Higher sales: Bundles increase your Average Order Value (AOV). For example, instead of buying just a cleanser, a customer might buy a "Glow Kit" with a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer.
Clear inventory: You can bundle slow-selling items with popular ones to clear out extra stock.
Better value: Customers love a good deal. Offering a discount on a set makes them feel like they are making a smart move.
Easy shopping: Curated sets, like a "Home Office Kit," save customers time by picking the best items for them.
Bundle types you can create in Shopify
With a powerful app like MBC Bundles, you can create five main types of offers to meet your goals:
1. Classic Bundles: The most common type where customers buy a set of related items for a discount.
2. Volume/Quantity Discounts: These reward customers for buying in bulk. For example, "Buy 1 for full price, or 3 for 15% off".
3. BOGO (Buy One, Get One): A fun way to boost excitement. Customers get a free item or a discount when they buy another product.
4. Mix & Match: This gives shoppers control. They can build their own bundle by picking products from a specific group.
5. Variety Pack Discounts: These encourage customers to try new things by giving a discount when they buy a mix of different items.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Product Bundles in Shopify
Creating a bundle is easy if you follow these five steps using the MBC Bundles app:
Step 1: Install MBC Bundles
To install MBC Bundles app to your Shopify store, follow these steps:
Go to the Shopify App Store and search for MBC Bundles (click here).
Click "Install" to open your Shopify dashboard.

Step 2: Set Up Basic Bundle Information
Go to your app dashboard, click "Create new bundle", and give your bundle a clear name.

Step 3: Choose Your Bundle Type
Pick a preset that fits your goal, such as:
Classic bundles: Use classic bundles to encourage bulk buying or offer curated sets.
Volume discount: Reward customers for buying more of the same product or pack.
Buy One, Get One (BOGO): Offer free items when specific products are purchased.
Mix & Match: Let customers build their own bundles using different items.
Variety Pack Discount: Encourage discovery by rewarding diverse purchases.

Or, choose to build a custom structure from scratch as separate products, product groups, or volume discounts.
Separate products: Each product listed individually

Product groups: Products can be swapped within groups

Volume discount: Discount based on quantity

Step 4: Choose the bundle type
Your bundle type defines how the bundle is created, where it appears, and how it behaves at checkout.
You’re presented with 3 options:
Widget-only bundle
Bundle as product and widget
Shopify bundle
Option 1: Widget only bundles
Widget-only bundle allows you to create a bundle that’s powered by a bundle widget. You can place the widget on product pages (and other pages), or hide it and still apply the bundle discount only in the cart or use it in POS.
Choose this when you want:
The most flexibility in where the bundle appears (PDP, other pages, or hidden).
A bundle that’s mainly a front-end offer (mix & match / add-on style flow).
To run bundles that don’t need their own product page as a standalone “bundle product”.

Option 2: Bundle as product and widget
This option allows you to create a bundle that is created as a real product (with its own product page), and it can also be embedded as a widget. It also works with Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram sales channels.
Choose this when you want:
Your bundle behaves like a catalog product (shareable URL, can be marketed like a product).
Compatibility with sales channels (for ads / social commerce listings).
The option to show the bundle as one product (and optionally show items separately).

Option 3: Shopify bundle
This type is a Shopify POS–compatible bundle product. It shows as one product, but splits into individual items at checkout and in the order (and can show items separately). It has its own product page and can optionally be embedded as a widget.
Shopify POS support (in-store selling).
Orders to clearly break down into individual bundle items at checkout / in the order.
A more Shopify-native bundle structure.

Step 5: Configure Layout and Presentation
Choose how your bundle looks on the page. You can show products in a grid or a list with images. Decide if the bundle should have its own dedicated product page or appear as a widget on existing pages.

Step 6: Select Your Bundle Products
Click "Add products" to pick the items you want to include. You can use AI suggestions to see your most and least selling products, which helps you make data-driven choices.

Step 7: Set Up Discounts
Choose your discount style. This could be a percentage off, a fixed sale price, or a free gift.
No discount
When you select the ‘no discount’ option, customers pay the regular price for all items included in the bundle.
Use this when:
The bundle’s value is in convenience, not savings
You’re grouping products to simplify buying (e.g. starter kits)
You want to test bundle adoption before adding discounts
Standard discount
A single fixed or percentage discount applied when the bundle conditions are met. When you select this discount type, the discount applies to the bundle subtotal and it can be set as a percentage or fixed amount.
Use this when:
You want a simple, clear offer
One rule fits all bundle sizes
Example: “Get 10% off this bundle”
Tiered discount
Tiered discount is a progressive discount that increases as customers add more items.
Use this when:
You want to encourage larger bundles
You’re optimizing for higher AOV
Example:
Buy 2 → 5% off
Buy 4 → 10% off

Free gift
With this discount option, customers receive one free product instead of a price discount.
You add products or collections as gift options and customers can select one free gift from the list
Use this when:
You want to increase perceived value without discounting prices
You’re promoting specific products
You want to avoid margin erosion from percentage discounts
Note: Offering a free gift depends on the bundle types shown in step 3.

Step 8: Place the widget
This is the final step where you decide where and how the bundle appears on your storefront.
👉 Show the widget on product pages of included bundle items
When this option is enabled, the bundle widget is displayed directly on the product pages of the items included in the bundle.

Your product bundle is ready to set it live!
When You Can Use Shopify’s First-Party Bundle App
Shopify offers a free, native app called Shopify Bundles. It is a great starting point for very simple needs.
You should use Shopify's own app when:
You only need fixed bundles (pre-set kits that customers cannot change).
You want a free tool for basic kits, like a camera that comes with a specific lens and tripod.
You do not need advanced features like Mix & Match, subscriptions, or volume discounts.
Keep in mind that the native app has limits. It only supports up to 30 products per bundle and is generally only compatible with your Online Store, not other social media sales channels. For more complex deals, third-party apps are usually a better fit.
