Black Friday 2025 Bundle Report: What 267 Shopify Stores Did Differently

This report looks at bundle sales in Shopify stores using MBC Bundles over Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2025. We studied 267 stores that sold bundles over the BFCM weekend and compared each one with its own sales in a normal week. The goal was simple: find out what the stores that grew did differently.

About this research: All figures come from anonymised, aggregated MBC Bundles data. We report changes and comparisons, not store revenue. No single store can be identified. Where we compare groups, we use the median store or exclude the largest stores, so one very large store cannot skew the result.

Summary of findings

  1. Black Friday was about 9x a normal day for bundle sales.

  2. Most of the season happened outside the weekend. 44% of bundle sales came in the 16 days before it.

  3. Bundles took a bigger share of orders: 22% of orders, up from 14%.

  4. Results split three ways. 36% of stores tripled their bundle sales. 35% saw them fall.

  5. Preparation made the difference. Stores that tripled built nearly twice as many new bundles.

  6. More bundles went with much higher sales. The typical store with 4 to 9 bundles earned 18x more than a store with one.

  7. Gift boxes and free gifts beat fixed sets. Discounts of 25% or more earned less.

Finding 1. Demand builds for weeks

Bundle sales on Black Friday 2025 were about nine times a normal November day. But the rise started much earlier, on November 12, and it lasted a week past Cyber Monday.

Finding 2. Shoppers chose bundles more often, and bigger ones

Over BFCM weekend, 22% of orders included a bundle, compared with 14% in a normal week. The average bundle order was 21% larger.

Finding 3. Black Friday did not lift every store

We compared each store's bundle revenue over BFCM weekend with the same number of days in early November. The stores split into three groups of almost equal size: 36% tripled their bundle sales or more, 29% grew by less than 3x, and 35% sold less than in a normal week.

Finding 4. The stores that grew prepared new offers

2 in 3 stores that tripled their bundle sales built new bundles in the six weeks before Black Friday. Among stores that dropped, 2 in 5 did. The stores that tripled also built nearly twice as many new bundles.

Fresh offers mattered more than old ones. Bundles created in the last two weeks before Black Friday earned more per bundle over the weekend than bundles created in October. Stores got results from offers made for the season.

Finding 5. More bundles, much higher sales

We grouped stores by the number of bundles that sold over BFCM weekend and compared the typical store in each group with the typical single-bundle store.

Compared with the typical single-bundle store, the typical store with 2 to 3 bundles earned 3x more, with 4 to 9 bundles 18x more, and with 10 or more 47x more. About 1 in 3 stores had only one bundle selling over the weekend.

Finding 6. Gift boxes and free gifts beat fixed sets

We compared bundle types. Fixed sets are the most common type, but they had the lowest value per order and grew less than gift boxes over the weekend.

Bundle types over BFCM weekend (value per order indexed, fixed sets = 100):

  • Mix and Match (gift boxes): Value per order: 131; BFCM weekend vs. normal: 5.8x; Bundles that doubled or more: 48%

  • Fixed sets: Value per order: 100; BFCM weekend vs. normal: 4.7x; Bundles that doubled or more: 39%

  • Volume tiers: Value per order: 107; BFCM weekend vs. normal: 3.8x; Bundles that doubled or more: 45%

  • Free gift (Buy X Get Y): Value per order: 189; BFCM weekend vs. normal: 4.0x; Bundles that doubled or more: 78% (a small group, so treat this as a signal)

Finding 7. Deeper discounts earned less

Bundles with a percentage discount under 25% earned about 1.5x more per bundle than bundles discounted by 25% or more. The average order value did not rise with the discount.

What this means for Black Friday 2026

  1. Go live by November 11. Most of the season happens before the weekend.

  2. Build new offers for the season. Do not rely on the bundle you built at install.

  3. Run several bundles. Start with three, each with its own job.

  4. Add a gift box and a free gift next to your fixed sets.

  5. Keep discounts under 25%. Make the offer bigger with structure, not a deeper cut.

  6. Keep offers running until December 7.

Methodology and sources

MBC Bundles data: anonymized and aggregated bundle-attributed orders across MBC Bundles stores, converted to USD at the time of order. BFCM weekend = November 28 to December 1, 2025. Normal week = November 3 to 9, 2025. Store comparisons use 158 stores with steady bundle sales in early November. Group comparisons use the median store or exclude the three largest stores. Figures are shown as shares, multiples and indexes.
